A new workshop report from the National Research Council, SUMMIT ON AMERICA'S ENERGY FUTURE: SUMMARY OF A MEETING, recaps an energy summit held earlier this year by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering that brought together representatives of government, higher education, industry, and the nonprofit sector to discuss themes of energy security, energy and the economy, and energy and the environment. Speakers included Sen. Jeff Bingaman, the first secretary of energy, James Schlesinger, current secretary of energy, Samuel Bodman, and numerous national and international experts on energy. The summit is part of a larger initiative called America's Energy Future, a project designed to stimulate discussion about U.S. energy options. The workshop report provides an account of speaker presentations and comments made during question-and-answer sessions.
