IADR Research in Dental Caries Award presented to Lussi

Grant and Award Announcement

International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Alexandria, Va. – Dr. Adrian Lussi is the 2008 recipient of the Research in Dental Caries Award, to be presented by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) at its 86th General Session & Exhibition in Toronto, ON, Canada on July 2, 2008. Dr. Lussi is Head of the Department of Preventive, Restorative and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Dr. Lussi completed his studies at both the Swiss Federal University of Technology in Zürich, Switzerland and the School of Dental Medicine in Zürich. He also studied as a research fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (USA) and the School of Dentistry of the University Hospital,Freiburg (Germany).

By this honor, Dr. Lussi is being recognized as a pioneer in the field of dental erosion and dental caries, in particular regarding new methods of caries diagnosis. He has published more than160 papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored several monographs, and served in various executive positions - currently as President of the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA). Dr. Lussi has received many awards and recognitions, including the recent 2006 Yngve Ericsson Prize for Research in Preventive Dentistry.

Generously supported by Johnson & Johnson Oral Health Products, the Research in Dental Caries Award is one of the 16 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by the IADR. The award, consisting of a cash prize and a plaque, is designed to stimulate and recognize outstanding and innovative achievements that have contributed to the basic understanding of caries etiology and/or to the prevention of dental caries.
