Elsevier

Oxford UK, 16 April 2008 – Elsevier, world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information announces that with effect from January 2008 it has become the publisher and sole owner of the journal Geothermics - International Journal of Geothermal Research and its Applications. The journal was previously owned by the Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse (IGG-CNR), Pisa, Italy, and published by Elsevier on its behalf. IGG, as well as the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), will remain affiliated organizations with Geothermics (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/geothermics).

The great potential and environmental benefit of geothermal resources as a sustainable source of energy is reflected in the increased interest in Geothermics. Elsevier, in co-operation with the international research community and the professional organizations in the field, will seek to build on the journal’s reputation as a high-quality outlet for leading peer-reviewed research and critical technical reference studies in geothermal science and technology. The journal, traditionally aimed at scientists and academics, is of increasing relevance also to industry, consultancies, governmental and non-governmental organizations and policy makers. Its international, multi-disciplinary coverage, and its highly regarded topical issues will continue to attract leading authors and critical readers from across the world.

The current Editor, Dr Marcelo Lippmann of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who has provided excellent leadership to the journal in the past years, is joined by a team of three new Editors: Dr Sabodh Garg of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), San Diego, has become a co-Editor along with Dr. Lippmann. Dr Garg will also assume the responsibility for submissions from the Americas. Dr Greg Bignall of GNS Science, Wairakei Research Centre, Taupo, New Zealand, and Dr John Garnish (formerly Program Manager, European Commission) in the UK, are the new Associate Editors for the Asia/Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa regions, respectively. The recently revised Editorial Board and Advisory Board, consisting of prominent researchers and leaders in the field, will offer expert support to the Editors, helping to increase the number of high-quality research papers and to further raise the impact of Geothermics.

“I am particularly excited by the great potential and environmental benefits of geothermal resources as a sustainable source of alternative energy. Elsevier, in co-operation with the international research community and key professional associations, will seek to further build the journal’s reputation as a high quality source of leading peer-reviewed research literature and technical reference data in the geothermal field” commented Henri van Dorssen, Publisher in the field of Energy.

Geothermics will continue to be available both in print and online through ScienceDirect (www.sciencedirect.com).
