Amsterdam, 07 April 2008 – Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services is pleased to announce the formation of a publishing partnership with the Geologists’ Association, an UK based organization representing more than 1200 members, mainly in the UK.

Under the agreement, Elsevier will assume publication of the Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association (www.geologists.org.uk), official journal of the Association, starting in January 2009.

The first volume of The Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association was published in 1859, one year after the Association was formed. Presently the journal is being published in one volume of four issues per year. It incorporates original research and review papers on all aspects of geology, publishes reports of field meetings, correspondence relating to previously published articles, short communications and timely book reviews.

Peter Riches, Editor, comments “The Geologists’ Association is very pleased with the agreement with Elsevier to publish the Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association from 2009. The new publishing arrangements with Elsevier will enable the Proceedings to reach a wider audience of geologists around the world and strengthen the reputation of the journal and the Association. Authors will benefit from Elsevier's EES, online submission and peer review. In addition, there will be advanced online access to articles in press.”

Elsevier publisher Femke Wallien noted, “We are very proud to be able to work with the Association on further increasing the visibility of this long standing journal. A first initiative is to digitize all issues back to Volume 1 so that the complete publication record of the Proceedings will be available on Science Direct.”

Members of the Geologists’ Association will be able to choose between the print or electronic edition of the Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association. In addition members will have access to the complete digital archive of the journal going back to Volume 1 issue 1.
