LOS ANGELES (ALL INFORMATION EMBARGOED UNTIL TIME OF PRESENTATION) – Heart specialists and scientists from the divisions of Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Imaging at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute will be involved in more than two dozen presentations at the 2008 scientific sessions of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Meetings will be held March 29 through April 1 in Chicago. Below are 4 presentations that may be of particular interest:
- An interventional cardiologist will present information on emerging technologies that allow heart valves to be repaired without surgery. (Monday, March 31, 10:48 a.m.)
- Specialists in women’s heart issues will discuss a link they recently found between levels of a prohormone – a precursor to a sex hormone – and cardiovascular disease risk among certain post-menopausal women. (Sunday, March 30, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
- Cardiology researchers who are working toward developing a vaccine designed to protect against plaque buildup will describe their latest study in mice on dosage and timing of immunization. (Monday, March 31, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
- And cardiothoracic surgeons and researchers will offer evidence that blocking the effects of a certain gene may be beneficial in treating heart valve disease. (Tuesday, April 1, 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.)
