OTTAWA — As part of the Energy 2007 Conference, the Government of Canada presented the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) Leadership Awards to ten organizations from across Canada in recognition of their significant and innovative contributions to energy efficiency. The awards were presented by Mr. David Anderson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources Canada.
“Congratulations to the winners of the CIPEC Leadership Awards,” said Mr. Anderson. “Each of this year’s recipients has demonstrated the kind of commitment to energy efficiency that is truly a model for Canada’s industrial sector. I thank you for your role in helping Canadians use less and live better.”
Supported by Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Efficiency initiative, CIPEC was formed through a voluntary partnership between the Government of Canada and industry — including Canada's mining, manufacturing, construction and energy supply sectors — and works to promote actions that reduce industrial energy use.
The CIPEC Leadership Awards celebrate the achievements of Canada's industrial companies and raise awareness that energy efficiency is good for business and good for the environment. These awards are part of a family of ecoENERGY Efficiency Awards supported by Canada’s Government to celebrate best practices in innovation in energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy.
Energy 2007 is Canada’s foremost industrial energy conference. Organized by CIPEC, the conference provides an opportunity for industry representatives — from senior decision makers to engineers, operations managers and energy practitioners — to network and exchange ideas on tapping into energy saving opportunities in Canada’s industrial sector.
In the past year, the Government of Canada has made major progress on energy efficiency. This includes the launch of the ecoENERGY initiatives — a $2-billion set of focused measures that are helping Canadians use energy more efficiently, boost renewable energy supplies and develop cleaner energy technologies.
