Springer, one of the leading global STM publishers, has entered a publishing partnership with the Estuarine Research Federation (ERF) for the journal Estuaries and Coasts. Appearing six times a year, the journal plays a major role in promoting research on and management of estuarine and coastal ecosystems. The first issue published at Springer will be February 2008. The partnership will be officially announced at the ERF 2007 Conference from 4-8 November 2007, in Providence, Rhode Island, USA.
Estuaries and Coasts publishes research on physical, chemical, geological or biological systems, as well as management of those systems, at the interface between the land and the sea. The interface is broadly defined to include areas within estuaries, lagoons, wetlands, tidal rivers, watersheds that include estuaries, and near-shore coastal waters. Editors-in-Chief are Carlos Duarte of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies in Esporles, Spain, and James Cloern of the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, USA.

Estuaries and Coasts will be published at Springer online and in print. The journal will include Online First™, Cross Reference Linking, and Alert services. All Estuaries and Coasts authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, will have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. Estuaries and Coasts will be included in OARE, AGORA, and INASP, three of the developing countries initiatives in which Springer plays a leading role. These initiatives provide scientists, researchers, and policymakers in low-income countries with free or very low-cost online access to Springer journals.
