Terence James Parker wins 2007 Kenneth J. Button Prize

Springer expert in solid state spectroscopy singled out for his exceptional achievements

Terence James Parker has been chosen to receive the Kenneth J. Button Prize, which is given annually to a scientist in recognition of “outstanding contributions to the science of the electromagnetic spectrum.” Parker receives the honor for his achievements in the field of solid state spectroscopy and, in particular, for the investigation of surface and interface models in semiconductors and magnetic media. The prize will be presented to Parker at the International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and Terahertz Electronics, which will be held from September 2 – 7, 2007, in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

Terry Parker has 30 years’ research experience in solid state spectroscopy and is active in the international scientific community. He has BSc and PhD degrees in physics from the University of London. The author or co-author of more than 175 scientific publications, Parker took up his present appointment as professor of physics at the University of Essex in January 1991. Parker is an editorial board member of Springer’s International Journal of Infrared and Millimeter Waves.

The Kenneth J Button Prize is awarded annually at the International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and Terahertz Electronics. The award is named after the founder of the Conference and is administered by the Institute of Physics in London. It consists of a bronze medal, a certificate and a cash prize of £2000.
