Business Announcement

Springer

Starting in September 2007, Springer will publish the Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation (JPI), an official journal of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). The Society represents 25,000 pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals in 90 countries.

The international, peer-reviewed Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation publishes high-quality papers and focuses on innovative research and applied technologies within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. JPI’s goal is to be the premier communication vehicle for the critical body of knowledge that is needed for scientific evolution and technical innovation, from R&D to market.

The journal’s content will reflect current government initiatives – both in the US and internationally – designed to make the process of bringing a drug to market less costly and more efficient. JPI publishes case studies, research letters, research articles, perspectives and reviews in process design, optimization, automation, and control; facilities; information management; regulatory policy and strategy; supply chain developments; and education and professional development.

Editor-in-Chief is James K. Drennen III, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs and Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Technology at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Drennen commented, “I am pleased to be working with ISPE and Springer on this initiative. It will provide a unique opportunity for interaction between the traditional pharmaceutical scientists and pharmaceutical engineers who serve the pharmaceutical industry.”

Kathleen P. Lyons, Editorial Director, Biomedical Sciences, at Springer said, “Springer is very excited to be partnering with ISPE on this important undertaking. JPI has the potential to become a leading source of information for academia, government, and industry by marrying a range of disciplines whose joint efforts are required to ensure the safe, efficient production of drugs from research and development to market.”

Robert P. Best, CEO and President of ISPE, said, “We are certain that Springer will help us in our goal to produce a high-quality journal that will not only impact the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, but also help us attain our strategic goal as a catalyst for the industry.”

Springer will publish JPI in both print and electronic formats. The quarterly journal will be available via www.springerlink.com, Springer’s online information platform. It will include fast, electronic publication in Online First™, as well as Cross Reference Linking and Table of Content Alerts. In addition, all potential authors have the option, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. Springer will digitize the back volumes of JPI, making them available to readers through the Springer Online Archives Collection.
