University of Nottingham

World-class pharmaceutical research undertaken at the University of Nottingham gets the royal seal of approval next month. Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Sir Andrew Buchanan — Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in the county — will present the School of Pharmacy with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation 2007 on Tuesday July 3.

One of the UK’s most prestigious corporate accolades, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise underlines the University’s reputation as an international centre of excellence in research. The School of Pharmacy is home to teaching and research teams in the UK and Malaysia, delivering breakthrough results in biophysics, surface analysis, medicinal chemistry, structural biology, molecular and cellular sciences, drug delivery and tissue engineering. It is also a centre of excellence in social research in medicines and health.

The school was singled out for ‘enhancing significantly the development of new medicines’.

Sir Andrew will present the award during a reception at the Boots Science Building on University Park at 2.30 pm. Sir Colin Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, and Professor Saul Tendler, Head of The School of Pharmacy, will speak at the event.

Professor Tendler said: “The Queen’s Award acknowledges that the School of Pharmacy at The University of Nottingham ‘is enhancing significantly the development of new medicines’. This is an achievement of which we are all extremely proud. It acknowledges our excellence in research and teaching in both the UK and Malaysia”.
