Springer has signed an agreement with the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) to publish its journal, Annals of Behavioral Medicine. Starting in 2008, the bi-monthly publication will join Springer’s growing portfolio of health psychology journals. Springer will bring global visibility to the journal through SpringerLink, its innovative online information platform.

Annals of Behavioral Medicine is the leading journal which fosters the exchange of knowledge from the various disciplines that comprise behavioral medicine. It promotes the integration of biological, psychosocial, and behavioral factors and principles that underlie health promotion, disease prevention, risk factor modification, disease progression, adjustment and adaptation to physical disorders as well as rehabilitation. Editor-in-Chief Alan J. Christensen, Ph.D. is supported by an editorial team of leading experts in the field of behavioral medicine.

Peter Kaufmann, President of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, said, “The Society is exceedingly pleased with this new partnership. As one of the most highly respected publishers in medicine, psychology and other sciences, Springer is well positioned to advance our goal of reaching a large audience and achieving prominence in the field. Springer’s state-of-the-art electronic publishing platform will promote access and will increase search and archiving capabilities. We are very excited about working with the Springer team in this new endeavor.”

Janice Stern, Senior Editor, Health and Behavior, at Springer said, “Springer recognizes that the fields of behavioral medicine and health psychology are increasingly being integrated into primary care medicine and health care delivery. We have no doubt that the relevance and contribution of the Society of Behavioral Medicine to the health care community will continue to deepen and expand, and that the Annals of Behavioral Medicine will continue to play a critical role in fostering the exchange of information.”

The Annals of Behavioral Medicine will be available in print and on Springer’s online platform www.springerlink.com. All articles will be published online via Online First™ before they appear in print, thereby ensuring rapid dissemination of research results. In addition, all authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. Springer will digitize the back volumes of the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, making them available to readers through the Springer Online Archives Collection.

About the Society of Behavioral Medicine

Founded in 1978, the Society of Behavioral Medicine (www.sbm.org) is the first organization to recognize the important interplay between psychosocial factors and physical health. Today it still serves as the premiere scientific forum for more than 2,000 behavioral and biomedical researchers and clinicians. It is dedicated to promoting the study of the interactions of behavior with biology and the environment, and the application of that knowledge to improve the health and well being of individuals, families, communities and populations. The SBM provides an interactive network for education and collaboration on research and addresses public policy concerns related to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and health promotion.
