(Boston, Mass.) -- Eran D. Metzger, M.D, associate director of psychiatry at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston, has been named a Practice Change Fellow by The Atlantic Philanthropies. He was selected from a competitive field of geriatrics specialists.
The Practice Change Fellowship program is designed to expand the number of health-care leaders who can effectively promote high quality care to older adults in a wide range of health-care organizations. The program is sponsored by The Atlantic Philanthropies, an organization whose mission is to bring about lasting changes in the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations, focusing on aging.
In addition to helping participating fellows develop their leadership skills, the program provides the opportunity to complete a project aimed at implementing a new geriatric program or service line. Dr. Metzger’s project aim is to design and implement a new Psychiatry Support Service for long-term care residents at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. According to Dr. Metzger, “research shows that, although effective treatments are available, mental health care for most elderly patients remains suboptimal.”
A psychiatrist at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center since 1998, Dr. Metzger is also on the medical staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Faulkner Hospital. He is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Metzger received his undergraduate degree from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He completed a residency program at Brockton Hospital and residency and fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital.
