Hoboken, N.J., March 1, 2007 -- Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., today announced that Hormel Foods Corporation is the winner of the 6th Annual Food Quality Award.

Sponsored by DuPont Qualicon and presented by Food Quality Magazine, the Food Quality Award honors food companies that have demonstrated success in protecting consumer health, improving consumer satisfaction, and safeguarding the North American food supply. A panel of judges selects the winner after reviewing entries submitted by self-nominated companies. Past honorees include such major industry participants as Beef Products, SYSCO Corporation, and Tyson Food Safety and Laboratory Services.

Hormel was recognized for its outstanding achievements in food safety investments and its commitment to assuring quality products. These achievements include the development of a breakthrough high pressure processing technology used to pasteurize presliced deli sandwich meats and pioneering efforts to ensure the humane treatment of animals. Hormel is a multinational manufacturer and marketer of consumer-branded meat and food products, including hams, bacon, sausages, canned luncheon meats, stews, hash, and meat spreads. Its products are sold to retail, foodservice, and wholesale operations under many well-established trademarks, such as Always Tender, Dinty Moore, Jennie-O Turkey Store, Light & Lean, and Spam.

The award will be presented at a special event during the Food Safety & Security Summit, to be held at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center on March 6-8, 2007. Food Quality Publisher Rick Biros and DuPont Qualicon President Kevin Huttman will present Bryan Farnsworth, vice president of quality management at Hormel, the award on Wednesday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the Keynote Theater.
