Washington, D.C., February 15, 2006 -- Elsevier is pleased to announce that six of its professional and scholarly books were honored by The Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division (PSP) of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) at the 2007 Awards for Excellence in Professional and Scholarly Publishing this week. The panel was comprised of 12 judges, including librarians, academics and working publishers.

The Encyclopedia of Respiratory Medicine, the first ever encyclopedia on the subject, was the 2007 winner for Multi-Volume Reference Works. This translational reference brings together researchers and clinicians from basic pulmonary science and clinical respiratory medicine. The four-volume work covers all aspects of respiratory medicine from the relevant molecular biology to the treatment of diseases that affect the respiratory system. Also, this is the first Elsevier encyclopedia to be published online and in print simultaneously.

Exploring Engineering was awarded the 2007 Best New Undergraduate Textbook. "Exploring Engineering was developed to help students understand the full range of engineering disciplines and the team approach to modern engineering", says Senior Editor Joel Stein.

Forensic Nursing, the first comprehensive book presenting forensic science and nursing theory within the context of contemporary social issues, was the 2007 winner in the Nursing and Allied Health category. Topics include crime scene investigation, evidence collection techniques and toxicology.

An additional four honorable mentions were garnered by The Immune Response, Multi-Media Procedures Clinical Case; Kinesiology and The Skeletal System and Muscle Function.

"In a nutshell, the PSP awards signify Elsevier’s continued dedication to developing quality content across a wide variety of disciplines," commented Brian Nairn, Chief Executive Officer, Health Sciences, Elsevier. "All of these awards are the direct result of the effort and dedication of a veritable army of talented authors and editors. We commend them on behalf of Elsevier and the publishing community."
