SEATTLE -- The American Meteorological Society has joined ResearchChannel as the newest member of its expanding media and technology organization.
Through cable and satellite distribution, ResearchChannel is available to more than 24 million U.S. households. The ResearchChannel website, with users in over 70 countries worldwide, provides programs on demand and through a live webstream. The online video library houses more than 3,000 full-length programs.
"ResearchChannel looks forward to working with the American Meteorological Society," said Amy Philipson, executive director of ResearchChannel. "The goal of having such world-class institutions become part of ResearchChannel is to share research and scientific thinking on a variety of subjects with a wide audience. Viewers hear directly from leading researchers at professional and educational organizations via lectures, interviews and documentaries."
Upcoming 2007 programs from the AMS will include the latest in atmospheric research and technology transfer to industry and user groups, special features on Benjamin Franklin's science and the 50th anniversary of the Certified Consulting Meteorologist Program. Programming will be drawn from the breadth of AMS-sponsored technical symposia, conferences and public policy forums along with contributions from its membership.
AMS Executive Director Keith Seitter said, "ResearchChannel's broad reach using satellite, cable and the Internet allows the American Meteorological Society to leverage the activities of its scientific meetings and seminars. Now presentations on a wide range of atmospheric and related sciences of importance to all citizens can be seen not just by the hundreds in a meeting room but by potentially tens or hundreds of thousands."
The American Meteorological Society (www.ametsoc.org), founded in 1919, has more than 11,000 international members, organizes nearly a dozen scientific conferences annually, hosts science and policy discussions, and publishes nine peer-reviewed journals.
