PHILADELPHIA, October 30, 2006 -- Beginning with the January 2007 issue, the American College of Physicians' (ACP) magazine "The ACP Guide for Hospitalists" will become "ACP Hospitalist" and will expand to 12 issues per year.
The publication launched in March 2006 as a bimonthly career guide for ACP's hospitalist members.
"'ACP Hospitalist' has been so well-received that we decided to publish the magazine monthly and to focus on a broader range of topics," said Editor Jennifer Kearney-Strouse.
Drawing from ACP's extensive knowledge base, such as Annals of Internal Medicine, MKSAP (Medical Knowledge and Self-Assessment Program), and PIER (Physicians' Information and Education Resource), "ACP Hospitalist" will strive to keep hospitalists informed of the latest trends and issues affecting their practice, including:
- advances in health care technology
- latest drug approvals
- evidence-based medicine
- patient safety and quality of care issues
- clinical controversies
- staffing and scheduling innovations
- reimbursement news affecting hospitalists
- salary trends
Approximately 85 percent of the country's 15,000 practicing hospitalists (physicians who provide general medical care for hospitalized patients) are internists. Hospitalists represent a growing field in internal medicine.
