September 18, 2006, Weinheim, Germany -- Wiley-VCH Verlag, the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the European Journal of Immunology (EJI), and the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) announced today that they have entered into an expanded new publishing agreement, designed to make the European Journal of Immunology the foremost international immunology journal published in Europe. Edited under the auspices of EFIS, EJI will focus on publishing a broad spectrum of high-quality scientific research from around the world.

On a rotating basis, new editors representing the range of subject fields covered in the journal will be jointly invited by EFIS and Wiley-VCH to serve as ExCo members of the journal with the aim of ensuring a rapid and high standard peer-review of submitted papers. Professor Rolf Zinkernagel, who has served as Chair of the ExCo with distinction and enthusiasm over the past seven years, will continue his work for the journal until the end of 2007. He will be supported by two deputies, to be appointed shortly, one from the U.S. and one from Australasia/Asia.

"This is a new beginning, one that we all look forward to with great enthusiasm" said Professor Foo Yoo Liew, Past-President of EFIS.

Stefan H. E. Kaufmann, the new President of EFIS, is excited about the tremendous opportunities that arise through this agreement: "All aspects of European immunology including education, public awareness and science will benefit enormously from this arrangement."

"The real winner of this new collaboration agreement is the scientific community, as profits from the journal will be used to aid and support the immunology research community and to sponsor scientific events," said Dr. Manfred Antoni, Managing Director of Wiley-VCH. All such charitable activities will be administered by EFIS and will be publicly announced in the journal and in EFIS communications.
