Hoboken, N.J. -- Frank Xu, Assistant Professor of Civil, Environmental & Ocean Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, has been named an Early Career Principle Investigator, a highly competitive and prestigious award from the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research of the Office of Science, US Department of Energy (DOE).

The overall objective of the DOE program is to stimulate academic research in scientific areas of interest to ASCR programs, especially among faculty who are in the early stages of their academic profession. The award of approximately $300,000 will provide support for Xu and a Ph.D. candidate for three years. Their research effort will develop multi-scale stochastic numerical methods for solving stochastic partial differential equations which involve multi-scale stochastic data. The methods will allow for the prediction of uncertainty propagation across many dynamical scales.
