National Academies advisory: Balance in NASA's science programs

In February, NASA released a new strategic plan to achieve President Bush's Vision for Space Exploration, outlining the first trade-off decisions the agency has made among scientific programs and other needs to achieve the vision. AN ASSESSMENT OF BALANCE IN NASA'S SCIENCE PROGRAMS, new from the National Academies' National Research Council, considers whether NASA's plan adequately includes all relevant disciplines -- earth and planetary sciences, life and microgravity sciences, astronomy and astrophysics, and solar and space physics -- and reflects scientific priorities recommended in previous decadal surveys by the Research Council.
