Springer acquires Obesity Surgery from FD-Communications

Leading journal will enhance Springer's surgery portfolio

Springer, one of the world's leading scientific, technical and medical publishers, has acquired Obesity Surgery, the leading periodical in the field of bariatric surgery, from FD-Communications, Inc.

Obesity Surgery has a 2004 ISI Impact Factor of 3.726, and is ranked seventh among the 139 peer-reviewed titles listed in the field of surgery. The journal publishes a wide range of content, including original research, reviews, technical innovations, guidelines, medico-legal matters and case reports. Obesity Surgery is widely read by bariatric surgeons, general surgeons, plastic surgeons, psychologists/psychiatrists, internists including endocrinologists, diabetologists and nutritional scientists worldwide. Obesity Surgery is the official journal of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity.

Springer will publish Obesity Surgery in both print and electronic formats to serve the needs of researchers and medical professionals around the world. For the remainder of 2006 readers can view the electronic version at IngentaConnect (http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/fd/os).

Beginning January 2007, Obesity Surgery will be available via SpringerLink, Springer's online information platform and will include Online First, a feature whereby articles are published online before they appear in print. Also in 2007, Obesity Surgery will offer all authors, via the Springer Open Choice program, the option of publishing their articles using the open access model (www.springer.com/openchoice). Obesity Surgery will continue to be produced in high-quality print format on a monthly basis.
