"IOF is delighted to have Tetra Pak's support, especially with this year's World Osteoporosis Day theme Bone Appetit – the role of food and nutrition in building healthy bones," said IOF Chief Executive Officer Daniel Navid. "Through WOD 2006 we are highlighting how healthy food and good nutrition help to build peak bone mass in young people, help to maintain general health during adulthood and are useful as part of treatment program for people with fractures – Tetra Pak's support, as one of four Global Gold Sponsors for World Osteoporosis Day, will help spread this message worldwide."
Highlighting the importance of the cooperation with IOF, Jorgen Haglind, Tetra Pak's Senior Vice-President Communications, stated: "Tetra Pak's motto, 'protects what's good', summarizes the core business philosophy of the company as practiced in different ways in our business operations. We are supporting IOF to express our commitment to help protect the health of consumers around the world."
Osteoporosis, in which the bones become fragile and break easily, is one of the world's most devastating and common chronic diseases. It strikes one in three women over 50 worldwide (more than breast cancer) and one in five men (more than prostate cancer).
World Osteoporosis Day 2006, which will be celebrated globally on October 20 with the theme Bone Appetit, is the second year of a three-year 'lifestyle' campaign to empower women and men to take responsibility for their bone health and not be victims of osteoporosis later in life.
