BOSTON--Joslin Diabetes Center, the global leader in diabetes research, care and education, has announced its partnership with Fremont Medical Center, a leading healthcare provider in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fremont Medical Center consists of 11 medical centers in the Las Vegas Valley, serving over 275,000 patients annually in six specialties, ranging from primary care and pediatrics to hospital in-patient care and emergency medicine. The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Fremont Medical Center, which opened Jan. 16, offers the latest advances for treating diabetes and its complications as well as patient education and support services.

"Over 100,000 people in Las Vegas have diabetes, and statistically, a third of them don't know they have the disease," said John W. Hare, M.D., Director of Joslin's Affiliated Centers Program. About the New Affiliate

The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Fremont Medical Center is located at 9280 W. Sunset Road, Suite 200, in the Southern Hills Hospital Medical Office Building. The Center offers diabetes training, diagnosis, treatment and support services.

This multidisciplinary program includes the services of an endocrinologist, a nurse practitioner specializing in diabetes, a registered nurse who is a Certified Diabetes Educator, a registered dietitian, and access to psychosocial support to help address the required lifestyle changes.

About 20.8 million Americans have diabetes. While approximately 14.6 million of these adults and children have been diagnosed with diabetes, 6.2 million of them are estimated to have type 2 diabetes and not know it.
