Elsevier announced that 1,000 journals are now using the successful online submission and peer review tool, Elsevier Editorial System (EES). Tetrahedron: Asymmetry became the 1,000th journal to adopt EES and is the final journal in the renowned Tetrahedrons Publication Group (including Tetrahedron and Tetrahedron Letters) to implement EES. EES is an online submission and peer-review tool which enhances the journal publication process by providing a seamless end-to-end online workflow.

EES offers the convenience of online submission for authors, and a sophisticated management tool for editors and reviewers, complimented by an excellent 24/7 support network. Based on Aries Systems Corporation's Editorial Managerâ, EES was developed in response to the strongly expressed need for an online submission and peer-review tool. EES also enables Elsevier to provide editors with online editorial administrative assistance, regardless of global location.

"EES is a natural and highly efficient progression for the Tetrahedron Publications, which pioneered online submission for authors through the launch of 'TetSubmit' in Spring 2000" says Dr. James Milne, Publisher of Tetrahedron Publications. "The enhanced functionality offered by EES has certainly reduced refereeing times for each of the Tetrahedron Publications, which directly improves the service provided to authors and readers alike".

"The rollout of EES for 1,000 journals is a great achievement," says Martin Tanke, Managing Director Journal Publishing, Elsevier, "Focusing on the users of EES – authors, editors and reviewers – and supporting them during the entire editorial process is proving very beneficial for our journals. The time reviewers use to assess papers has been reduced significantly, in some cases by more than 50%, and a year after EES implementation, the complete editorial process from submission to decision has been reduced by an average of 9 weeks."

In 2006, Elsevier will focus on aligning and integrating its products. From EES, editors and reviewers will be able to search in Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources, and link to full text references in ScienceDirect. This will greatly facilitate and enhance the work of editors and reviewers in assessing new submissions to a journal.
