Based on Aries Systems Corporation's Editorial Managerâ, EES was developed in response to the strongly expressed need for an online submission and peer-review tool. EES also enables Elsevier to provide editors with online editorial administrative assistance, regardless of global location.

In 2006, Elsevier will focus on aligning and integrating its products. From EES, editors and reviewers will be able to search in Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources, and link to full text references in ScienceDirect. This will greatly facilitate and enhance the work of editors and reviewers in assessing new submissions to a journal.
