Boston, Massachusetts – October 27, 2005--Blackwell Publishing, the world's largest society publisher, announced that it has formed a publishing partnership with the New York Academy of Sciences, a prestigious nonprofit organization dedicated to building communities of scientists and serving science and society.

Under the agreement, Blackwell and the Academy will publish 28 volumes a year of the 182-year-old Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, beginning in January 2006. Each Annals volume contains reviews of leading-edge interdisciplinary subjects, based on presentations made at scientific conferences and workshops, organized by the Academy and other organizations, held around the world. There are currently over 1,000 Annals titles.

"We chose to partner with Blackwell because of their excellent reputation for quality, their ties with professional societies and libraries, and their publishing and marketing expertise," said Academy President Ellis Rubinstein. "We are confident that they will help us move in a more strategic direction and explore new, innovative ways to enhance the international reach of the publication and grow the Annals."

The Academy will retain responsibility for acquisitions and editorial control. First published in 1823, the Annals are the nation's longest continuously-published scientific journal in America. The Annals series is ranked by the Institute for Scientific Information among the top two percent of sources cited in the scientific literature.

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with the New York Academy of Sciences, one of the premier scientific institutions in the U.S.," said Robert Harington, Vice President and Global Science Publishing Director at Blackwell. "Our missions complement each other well and together, we are committed to publishing the highest-quality scientific content, attracting the best authors, and maximizing the international reach of the publication."
