WASHINGTON, DC – May 13, 2005 -- The latest edition of a textbook on scientific ethics from ASM Press comes with the added bonus of a continually updated website containing links to online resources for both students and instructors. Scientific Integrity: Texts and Cases in Responsible Conduct of Research, 3rd Edition, presents an important revision of a best-selling text in the expanding field of responsible conduct of research training.

"As with the previous two editions, the Third Edition of this text draws its life from my continued teaching and scholarly activities in the field of responsible conduct of research (RCR)," says author Francis Macrina of Virginia Commonwealth University. "The content of RCR courses nationwide continues to change based on new developments, policies, and laws that have an impact on how scientists conduct themselves when doing research. Such continuing change in content is strikingly apparent in the 3rd Edition."

The revision of Scientific Integrity capitalizes on valuable student and instructor feedback, as well as the experience gained from Macrina's own classroom use. Conceived as a turnkey text, the book offers background, analysis, teaching tools, and associated online resources that will enable virtually any practicing scientist to create and teach a course on the responsible conduct of research.

New to this edition is a companion website that will serve as a critical reference source for students and instructors alike. Expanding upon the useful resources integrated into the textbook, the website will, in addition to providing valuable supplementary information, link instructors to policy and regulatory updates pertaining to research conduct. It will be verified and updated regularly.

"The 3rd Edition of Scientific Integrity aims to plant the seeds of awareness of existing, changing, and emerging standards in scientific conduct. Likewise, it provides the tools to promote critical thinking in use of that information. Taken together, these elements foster the hope that the book will set the stage for lifelong learning in scientific integrity and the responsible conduct of research," says Macrina.

Scientific Integrity: Texts and Cases in Responsible Conduct of Research, 3rd Edition, has a list price of $49.95 and can be ordered from ASM Press via the website at http://www.asmpress.org.
