Supervised by editors S. Jay Olshansky, PhD, Leonard Hayflick, PhD, and Thomas T. Perls, MD, MPH, this book focuses on the history of anti-aging research, the debate among scientists on the societal implications of modifying the biological rate of aging, and the reality of what is currently known about the aging process. Further attention is given to growth hormones and supplements and legal issues associated with the practice of anti-aging medicine. Twenty-two articles are presented in total.

The Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences is a refereed publication of The Gerontological Society of America, the oldest and largest national multidisciplinary scientific organization devoted to the advancement of gerontological research. Founded in 1945, its membership includes some 5,000+ researchers, educators, practitioners, and other professionals in the field of aging. The Society's principal missions are to promote research and education in aging and to encourage the dissemination of research results to other scientists, decision makers, and practitioners.
