ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The International and American Associations for Dental Research (IADR/AADR) are unveiling dramatic changes in its flagship publication, the Journal of Dental Research (JDR), under the leadership of new Editor Anthony J. Smith (University of Birmingham, UK).
For the first time in its 84-year history, each issue of the JDR will contain manuscripts from the formerly independent publication Critical Reviews in Oral Biology & Medicine (CROBM), which, for the past two years, had been an online-only bimonthly journal. It is anticipated that this move will further enhance the content and Scientific Impact Factor (SIF) of the JDR, already #1 worldwide among dental journals, as rated by the Institute for Scientific Information. (CROBM had enjoyed the #2 ranking for most of its 15-year existence as a separate journal.)
The cover of each issue of the JDR will feature a full-page, full-color illustration from a paper in that issue, creating an eye-catching look to increase reader appeal.
Finally, beginning with the January, 2005, issue, all content will be free to the public after 12 months (i.e., January, 2004, content will be free of access control in January, 2005, February, 2004, in February, 2005, and so on).
The January issue will feature: a critical review focusing on the unique structural organization of the junctional epithelium, on the nature and functions of the various molecules expressed by its cells, and on how gingipains may attenuate the junctional epithelium's structural and functional integrity; a critical review on ABO blood-group antigens in oral cancer, wherein the authors discuss that altered group antigen in malignant oral tissues may indicate increased cell migration; a research report on proteins in whole saliva during the first year of infancy; a research report on the first study to show that bacterial masses inside oral mucosal cells share the polymicrobial nature of tooth-surface biofilm; and a research report on inhibition of root caries progression by an antibacterial adhesive.
