Abstract poster contest finalists announced

(Spokane, WA) --Six finalists were announced in the poster competition at the annual Environmental and Subsurface Science Symposium, hosted by the Inland Northwest Research Alliance (INRA). The finalists include students from Washington State University, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Students from both INRA and non-INRA universities participated in the judged competition for a chance to win one of three cash awards totaling $1,750. Winners will be announced the morning of September 22, the final morning of the conference.

INRA is a coalition of eight northwestern research universities created to promote new opportunities for research and education that will benefit the region and the nation in a variety of technical disciplines. The symposium highlights national and international research conducted in the areas of environmental science and subsurface science as they relate to energy, nuclear and national security technologies. Speakers at the symposium have included Dr. Bruce Babbitt, former Secretary of Interior, University of Idaho President Dr. Timothy White, Evan K. Nyer, Senior Vice President with ARCADIS G& M, Inc., and Dr. James Tate, current science advisor to Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton.
