Once again supervised by guest editors S. Jay Olshansky, PhD, Leonard Hayflick, PhD, and Thomas T. Perls, MD, MPH, this issue addresses growth hormones and supplements, legal issues associated with the practice of anti-aging medicine, and efforts to change the biological rate of aging. Eight articles are presented in total.
Under the title "Anti-Aging Medicine: The Hype and the Reality," both sections will later be combined into a single publication.
Support for the preparation of the issue was provided by the Alliance for Aging Research, the American Federation for Aging Research, Ellison Medical Foundation, and the National Institute on Aging. The pieces also continue The Gerontological Society of America's series of summer events designed to discuss the topic of anti-aging medicine. The subject is addressed in an article of the June issue of The Gerontologist, as well as a recently released edition of the Public Policy and Aging Report, put out by GSA's policy branch, the National Academy on an Aging Society.
