2004 AIUM ultrasound research grant recipients to be announced at the AIUM annual convention

Grant and Award Announcement

American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine

PHOENIX, AZ - The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) will announce the winners of its 2004 Education and Research Fund (ERF) grants and the Gilbert Baum Memorial Grant at the 2004 AIUM Annual Convention at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 22, 2004.

With a small percentage of federal grants awarded in the field of diagnostic ultrasound, outstanding issues still remain that require careful scientific attention to secure the future of ultrasound in medicine. For this critical reason, as well as to provide professionals with a unique opportunity to further their professional growth, the AIUM established the ERF in 1996 and began awarding clinical and basic science ultrasound research grants in 2001.

Recipients of the grants will receive up to $10,000 for their clinical and basic science ultrasound research and education projects. In addition, a special one-time award, the Gilbert Baum Memorial Grant, will be awarded to the best clinical ultrasound research project. Barbra Baum, wife of late ultrasound pioneer and AIUM past president, Dr Gilbert Baum, has provided a gift of $10,000 to fund this special award.

The ERF, under the auspices of the AIUM, plans to continue awarding several ultrasound research grants each year to its members and is proud to sponsor cutting edge research in the field of ultrasound.

The winners of the 2004 AIUM ERF grants and Gilbert Baum Memorial Grant will be posted on the AIUM website at www.aium.org.
