Keep prescribing information private

Peer-Reviewed Publication

Canadian Medical Association Journal

Dick Zoutman and colleagues weigh in on the issue of protecting patient and physician prescription information and question the propriety of the practice of pharmacies selling such information to pharmaceutical companies.

The authors recommend a thorough review of the many issues associated with the confidentiality of personal health information.

Specifically, the authors call for a committee to be established by Health Canada to review and generate national standards on the issue and that the issue not be left in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry to review and manage.
