CHF announces 2004-2005 academic fellowships

Academic-Year Fellowships

CHF offers six academic-year fellowships (September–May) to support scholars in residence. The application deadline for all 2004–2005 academic-year fellowships is 15 January 2004.

Gordon Cain Fellowship in Technology, Policy, and Entrepreneurship, open to Ph.D. scholars who plan to conduct historical research on the development of the chemical industries. Minimum stipend: $43,000.

Sidney M. Edelstein International Fellowship, open to Ph.D. scholars who are conducting research in the history of the chemical sciences and technologies. Minimum stipend: $36,000.

Sidney M. Edelstein International Studentship, open to graduate students in the history of the chemical sciences and technologies who have completed all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation. Minimum stipend: $16,000.

Eugene Garfield Fellowship in the History of Scientific Information, open to Ph.D. scholars in the chemical sciences, information science, or the history of science, technology, or medicine. 2004-2005 fellowship pending funding.

John C. Haas Fellowship, open to Ph.D. scholars whose projects will enhance public understanding of the chemical industries in relation to environmental, health, and safety issues. Minimum stipend: $38,000.

Charles C. Price Fellowship in Polymer History, open to Ph.D. scholars pursuing research on the history of the chemical sciences and technologies; preference given to applicants with projects in the history of polymers. Minimum stipend: $20,000.


Summer Fellowships

CHF offers two summer fellowships for scholars in residence between June and August. The application deadline for 2004 summer fellowships is 15 February 2004.

Société de Chimie Industrielle (American Section) Fellowship, open to writers, journalists, educators, and historians of science, technology, or business whose projects will advance public understanding of the chemical industries. Competitive stipend.

Glenn E. and Barbara Hodsdon Ullyot Scholarship, open to scholars, graduate students, science writers, and journalists who plan to conduct historical research that will advance public understanding of the chemical sciences. Minimum stipend: $4,500.
