Mabrouk's research focuses on the use of a wide range of spectroscopic and electrochemical methods to the characterization of heme proteins and enzymes in non-aqueous media (organic solvents and supercritical fluids). A graduate of Wellesley College, Mabrouk earned her Ph.D. at MIT and completed an N.I.H. Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University before coming to Northeastern.
CASE established the Professors of the Year program in 1981, and the Carnegie foundation became a co-sponsor a year later. Campus provosts and academic vice presidents nominated the professors for the honor, and current and former students, colleagues, and peers from other institutions sent letters of support. Nomination materials included the professors' teaching logs and course descriptions, as well as personal statements describing their teaching and mentoring techniques, courses or curricula they created, or steps they took to extend the learning process beyond the classroom.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching was founded in 1905 by Andrew Carnegie "to do all things necessary to encourage, uphold and dignify the profession of teaching." The Foundation is the only advanced-study center for teachers in the world and the third-oldest foundation in the nation.
