Grant and Award Announcement

For the fifth consecutive year, Northwestern Memorial has been recognized as a Consumer Choice Award winner by the people of Chicago. According to a survey conducted by the National Research Corporation (NRC), Northwestern Memorial has once again been selected as Chicago's "most preferred hospital." NRC, a leader in healthcare performance measurement, annually recognizes hospitals whose consumers say they have the best doctors, best nurses, best overall quality and best image and reputation.

"Every year, this award validates that the staff at Northwestern Memorial has embraced our Best Patient Experience philosophy and that Chicagoans recognize our staff's level of commitment to our patients," said Dean Harrison, president and chief executive officer of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. "We are grateful to the Chicago community for recognizing Northwestern Memorial as their 'most preferred hospital,' as this award signifies that we have successfully maintained our commitment to our core values."

Of the 3,000 hospitals named by consumers in the study, Northwestern Memorial is one of 176 hospitals in 130 markets nationwide to receive this award. NRC President and CEO Michael Hays said winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company's annual HealthCare Market Guide Study (HCMG), the nation's largest and most comprehensive study of its kind.

"Consumers play an increasing role in their selection of healthcare facilities and services," said Hays. "As more information is made available to consumers, we expect to see this trend increase. With the industry's shift to a consumer-driven model, we are pleased to recognize the facilities named as leaders by those they serve. Northwestern Memorial deserves recognition for the emphasis it has placed on providing quality, patient-centered care."

This announcement appears in this week's edition of Modern Healthcare.
