IU Chemistry distinguishes eight of the nation's faculty for excellence in undergraduate research

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Department of Chemistry will honor eight chemists from throughout the nation at this year's Excellence in Undergraduate Chemical Research Symposium on Saturday (Sept. 27) in the Chemistry Building, Room C033. The annual event, in its third year, recognizes faculty from four-year colleges who have made significant contributions to research and to the mentorship of chemistry undergraduates.

Honorees Andrew Leavitt (State University of West Georgia), Robert Milosky (Fort Lewis College, Colo.), Lisa Lewis (Albion College, Mich.), William Polik (Hope College, Mich.), Thomas Clayton (Knox College, Ill.), Lisa Szczepura (Illinois State University), Carl Wigal (Lebanon Valley College, Pa.), and Thomas Smith (Williams College, Mass.) will each present 25-minute talks. Later in the evening, honorees will receive plaques and commendations.

Pfizer GRD Vice President Bruce Roth, who discovered the cholesterol drug Lipitor, will give the symposium's keynote address. The symposium schedule is available online at http://www.chem.indiana.edu/schedule of events.htm.
