Details about the Award and the online nomination process are located on the AACR Website at www.aacr.org. Nominations are now being accepted by the AACR; the nomination deadline is Tuesday, July 1, 2003.
The winner of the Award will present a major lecture during the second annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research, the premier annual international meeting on cancer prevention research, which will be held October 26-30, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A. The awardee will receive an honorarium of $5,000 (U.S.) and a commemorative plaque, as well as support for travel and subsistence expenses to attend the meeting.
The AACR–Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation Award in Cancer Prevention Research is open to all cancer researchers who are affiliated with any research institution anywhere in the world. Candidates will be considered on the basis of their seminal contributions to cancer prevention research and the impact of these discoveries on advancing the field. Candidates must currently maintain an active research program, have a record of recent publications, and be in a position to present the Award lecture at the meeting. The selection of the awardee will be made solely on the basis of the candidate's scientific accomplishments without regard to race, gender, nationality, geographic location, or religious or political views. Candidates may not nominate themselves.
The AACR is pleased to co-sponsor this Award with the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. The Foundation is a national, non-profit health foundation with a single mission: the prevention and early detection of cancer through scientific research and education. CRPF has contributed in a major way to the ongoing programs of the AACR and therefore has been named a “Champion of the AACR.”
Founded in 1907, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is a professional society of more than 20,000 laboratory and clinical scientists engaged in cancer research in the United States and more than 60 other countries. AACR’s mission is to accelerate the prevention and cure of cancer through research, education, communication and advocacy. Its principal activities include the publication of five major peer-reviewed scientific journals (Cancer Research; Clinical Cancer Research; Molecular Cancer Therapeutics; Molecular Cancer Research; and Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention). AACR’s annual meeting attracts more than 12,000 participants who share new and significant discoveries in the cancer field, and the AACR’s specialty meetings throughout the year focus on all the important areas of basic, translational and clinical cancer research.
