PHILADELPHIA – November 12, 2002 -- Roy Eddleman, CEO of Spectrum Laboratories and noted art collector, has donated a collection of 17th- to 19th-century paintings and drawings to the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) along with funds to create a museum for display and preservation of CHF's art and artifacts. Total value of the gift is estimated at $10 million.

When combined with current CHF holdings, the Eddleman alchemical art collection gives CHF the largest collection of alchemical art in the world. The new Roy Eddleman Research Museum will be built within the CHF facility in Philadelphia.

"Roy Eddleman's passion for collecting fine art and his desire to preserve the legacy of the molecular sciences has resulted in a great privilege and responsibility for the Chemical Heritage Foundation," said Arnold Thackray, president of CHF. "With the addition of the Eddleman Collection, CHF is home to some of the most important alchemical artwork of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The new Eddleman Museum will allow us to put these fine pieces and other treasures on permanent display."

Several representative works of the Eddleman Collection are currently on display at CHF along with pieces from the Fisher Collection, another extensive compilation of alchemical paintings donated to CHF. In addition to providing permanent display for alchemical art, the Eddleman Museum will house instruments and artifacts of the molecular sciences. CHF holdings currently include more than 300 instruments of historical significance donated by the Beckman Foundation and PerkinElmer Instruments along with thousands of other images and artifacts.
