Chemical Heritage Foundation

Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) has just published a new book depicting and describing the largest collection of alchemical art in the world. Transmutations: Alchemy in Art, Selected Works from the Eddleman and Fisher Collections at the Chemical Heritage Foundation by Lawrence M. Principe and Lloyd DeWitt introduces readers to the search for the Philospher's Stone and the art inspired by that quixotic quest.

Transmutations offers a thoughtful look at the role of the alchemist in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, as depicted in a selection of paintings from the Eddleman and Fisher Collections housed at CHF. This full-color book also reveals much about the beginnings of chemistry as a profession.

The Chemical Heritage Foundation
CHF was founded in 1982 by joint action of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The foundation seeks to advance the heritage of the chemical and molecular sciences by collecting and disseminating information about historical resources; encouraging research, scholarship, and popular writing; publishing resource guides and historical materials; conducting oral histories; creating traveling exhibits and other educational resource materials; and taking other appropriate steps to make known the achievements of chemical scientists and the chemical process industries.
