"Expert Guide to Infectious Diseases" is edited by James S. Tan, MD, MACP, head of the infectious disease section at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. In his preface, Dr. Tan writes, "Expert Guide to Infectious Diseases cannot be the final word on a subject so vast. Its aim is more modest but of equal importance: to be the best source for the essential information sought by the primary care physician."
The guide is the work of 51 contributing editors and Dr. Tan. An opening chapter reviews the use of laboratory tests in diagnosis. Seven of the ten sections are organ-specific, covering, for example, heart and vascular, gastrointestinal, bone, and respiratory tract infections. Three sections are devoted to immunocompromise-related, viral, and miscellaneous infections.
A total of 40 chapters elucidate the 10 sections. Tables on diagnosis and treatment recommendations are included throughout the text.
