The fifth annual “Education + Parish + Service” (EPS) Service Award will be presented to Pellegrino at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at an evening prayer service in the Notre Dame Chapel at Trinity College in Washington, followed by a cocktail reception. The EPS Program helps lay Catholic men and women to grow academically and spiritually by teaching them to live the Catholic faith and preparing them for informed, proactive evangelization in their communities.
The EPA Service Award honors lay Catholic men and women for excellence in witness to Catholic ideals, and in leadership and service. “Dr. Pellegrino has been a powerful witness to the Catholic teaching on the dignity of the human person, the sacredness of human life, and the right of every person to appropriate, compassionate health care,” said the Rev. Lawrence Boadt, chair of EPS’ Board of Trustees.
Pellegrino is nationally and internationally renowned for his work in the field of medical ethics. The founding editor of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Pellegrino has written more than 500 published articles on scientific research, medical education and philosophy, and has written or co-written 17 books. Pellegrino has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Laetare Medal from the Univerisity of Notre Dame, and has been awarded 40 honorary doctorates. His research interests include the history and philosophy of medicine, professional ethics, and the physician-patient relationship.
