New Science Press launches Proteins: From Sequence to Structure

The first part in a new introduction to protein structure and function with a post-genomic focus

Book Announcement

BMC (BioMed Central)

New Science Press is pleased to announce the online publication of Proteins: From Sequence to Structure, a concise post-genomic account of the relationship between protein sequence and protein structure from the forthcoming Protein Structure and Function by Gregory Petsko and Dagmar Ringe, a new short authoritative text on the principles of protein structure and function.

Protein Structure and Function will be the first book in an innovative new series of Primers in Biology, that combine the best features of a textbook and a reference book by organising information into easily digestible portions spanning two pages - the first 23 of these, now available online, form a coherent introduction to the relationship between sequence, structure and the functional properties of proteins from a post-genomic perspective for students of biochemistry and bioinformatics, and working scientists in need of a primer.

Proteins: From Sequence to Structure can be accessed for a year for a subscription of $10, including updates to the PubMed-linked bibliography.

The authors, Gregory Petsko (Director of the Rosenstiel Center) and Dagmar Ringe (Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry) at Brandeis University, Massachusetts, are authorities in their field, and Proteins: From Sequence to Structure has received high praise from reviewers:

"This [text] focuses on structure and stability, rather than on biological categories, and it does an excellent job of outlining the fundamental themes." Stephen C Harrison, Harvard University

"I read the outline and sample text [on motifs and classes of domains] with great interest. Overall I think it is just excellent - (in fact it follows almost exactly the same course as my 2nd year lectures on protein structure)." Janet Thornton, University College London (now Director of EBI)

"In many ways it is a powerful successor to the several books on protein structure... It has certainly moved well beyond the scope of other books, covering up to the most recent paradigm shifts in the field." Robert Stroud, University of California San Francisco
