ROCHESTER, MINN. -- The Michigan Education Special Services Association (MESSA) this month is launching a customized MayoClinic.com Web site to help empower its 259,000 members to make better health decisions.

MayoClinic.com is providing a customized online health management site that MESSA members and their families can use to plan and live healthy lifestyles, research medical information and learn about self-care.

Services include extensive interactive tools, as well as resources to help users make informed decisions about personal health issues and chronic medical conditions. The site is customized to address specific health management goals for the member population, and users can personalize it based on their individual health objectives or concerns.

"Mayo Clinic is pleased to work with progressive organizations like MESSA," says Philip T. Hagen, M.D., medical director, Mayo Clinic Health Management Resources. "MESSA has a reputation for providing comprehensive benefits to its members, and we are honored that online information and tools from Mayo Clinic have been added to its top-quality suite of services."

"We believe that in addition to enrolling members and paying claims, providing our members with access to reliable health information is an important part of our work," says MESSA Executive Director Cynthia Irwin.

"As children attending school, we all learned some basic information about how to stay healthy. As we get older and begin to encounter health problems, we may not always know where to find information that can help us get well or prevent illness. We know that by teaming with Mayo Clinic we are providing our members an online health information resource they can trust."

As part of the customized MayoClinic.com package, Mayo Clinic Health Management Resources provides MESSA with implementation support, helping to set strategic goals, plan communications, and execute a successful launch. Mayo also helps coordinate and integrate the site with other MESSA health initiatives and analyzes aggregate data to measure success in meeting goals.

A robust report package will provide MESSA with aggregate data on health risks, site usage and program impact over time. Reports identify the top health interests and usage patterns within the member population, as well as the impact of integrating activities that cross-promote other health initiatives.
