Leading breast cancer researchers will present latest findings

A group of internationally renowned scientists and clinicians will discuss recent advances in the science and treatment of breast cancer at the second annual Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium on Friday, Sept. 15 to Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Hotel Intercontinental, 505 N. Michigan Ave.

The symposium is sponsored by The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

The symposium will feature sessions on surgical and chemotherapeutic prevention and treatment of breast cancer, advances in breast imaging techniques and discussions on hormone replacement and alternative therapies in postmenopausal breast cancer survivors and women at risk for developing breast cancer.

William J. Gradishar, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Northwestern University Medical School and a Cancer Center member, will serve as chair of the three-day symposium. Other Northwestern speakers include Monica Morrow, M.D., professor of surgery and director of the Lynn Sage Breast Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and V. Craig Jordan, Diana, Princess of Wales Professor in Cancer Research, professor of cancer pharmacology at the Medical School and director of breast cancer research at the Cancer Center.

Among the other scheduled presenters are Andrew D. Seidman, M.D., Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and president of the American Society of Breast Disease, and Umberto Veronesi, M.D., European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy, who will deliver the Lynn Sage Memorial Lecture on "New Developments in Breast Cancer Management."
