First-ever Technology Transfer Fair featured at ACS National Meeting

Government, corporate and university innovators speak

Representatives from more than 20 organizations will discuss their latest technology innovations at the Technology Transfer Fair, to be held August 21-22, as part of the 220th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society. The meeting will be held in Washington, D.C., August 20-24, and is expected to draw up to 10,000 scientists.

Two ACS divisions that are liaisons with the business community are co-sponsoring the fair, which will feature speakers from government labs, academic institutions and chemical companies, as well as entrepreneurs involved in the development of new technology. The fair, the first of its kind at a national meeting, was developed as a way for chemistry innovators to share ideas and solicit support for their latest applications. Among the participating organizations are Carnegie Mellon University, Lehigh University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute and Honeywell, Inc.

The fair is comprised of two separate sessions, held in the Exhibit Hall of the Washington Convention Center. The first, on August 21, from 1-5 p.m., is a show-and-tell presentation, in which representatives will talk for 10-15 minutes on their innovations and describe the technologies developed by their institutions. The second session, on August 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., gives attendees a chance to schedule private conferences with representatives of their choice to obtain more in-depth information.

“This fair is designed to showcase new technologies and provide a dialogue between those who have developed the technologies and those who have the means and resources to produce these technologies,” said Dr. Richard Stockel, program chair.

The fair will include presentations on pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, environmental sciences, chemical processes and diagnostics.
