American Sociological Association to hold its 95th Annual Meeting in Washington DC

WASHINGTON - Five thousand participants will convene at the American Sociological Association's (ASA) 2000 Annual Meeting, August 12-16 at the Hilton Washington and Marriott Wardman Park Hotels in Washington DC. More than 500 presentations will be made on a wide range of topics including on inequality, race and racism, work/labor markets, the census, education, youth and families, and health issues. The opening plenary session on "Sexism and Feminism: Challenges for the 21st Century" will focus on gender issues and their implications in both the U.S. and abroad.

The theme of this Annual Meeting is "Oppression, Domination, and Liberation: Challenges for the 21st Century." In addition to thematic sessions, the meeting will feature presentations, book panels, poster sessions, symposia, and other events focused on a variety of research and policy-related perspectives. Up-to-date information regarding media events will be posted on the ASA homepage at http://www.asanet.org.
