Two groups of CIIT researchers were honored for their scholarship by the Society of Toxicology at its recent meeting in Philadelphia. The "Paper of the Year" awards from the Inhalation Specialty Section and the Developmental and Reproductive Specialty Section went to scientists from the Institute.
Dr. Li You and his colleagues were honored for their work on the effect of DDE. The paper, "Transplacental and Lactational Transfers of p,p'-DDE in Sprague-Dawley Rats," was published in the journal Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology [Vol. 157, 134-144]. Co-authors with Dr. You were Evangella Gazi, Shannon Archebeque-Engle, Mercedes Casanova, Dr. Rory Conolly, and Dr. Henry Heck.
Honored for their paper on the effect of inhaled ceramic fibers were Dr. Thomas Gelzleichter, a former postdoctoral fellow at CIIT now with Genentech, Inc.; Edilberto Bermudez, James Mangum, Dr. Brian Wong, Dr. Derek Janszen, Dr. Owen Moss, and Dr. Jeffrey Everitt. Their manuscript, "Comparison of Pulmonary and Pleural Responses of Rats and Hamsters to Inhaled Refractory Ceramic Fibers," appeared in the journal Toxicological Sciences [Vol. 49, 93-101].
Also honored at the meeting was CIIT Predoctoral Fellow Amy Collins Licata for her presentation "A Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Model for Methyl tert-Butyl Ether in Humans." She won the student award from the Risk Assessment Specialty Section.
