Healtheon founder among featured speakers at disease management leadership conference

BOSTON, August 24, 1999-- The nation's leading disease management experts will convene in San Francisco, October 17-20 to discuss the current and future trends in improving health care quality for people with chronic diseases such as heart disease, asthma, and diabetes.

James Clark, founder of Healtheon, John E. Ware, Ph.D., developer of today's leading health assessment tools, Gail Wilensky of Project HOPE and former director of the Health Care Financing Administration, and James Prochaska, Ph.D., director of the University of Rhode Island's Cancer Prevention Center and author of Changing for Good, are among the 30 featured speakers at the Disease Management Leadership Conference. The inaugural conference is hosted by the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) and will be held at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco.

"Disease management has emerged as a proven way to improve health outcomes for the millions of people with chronic diseases, resulting in lower health care costs for health plans, health care providers, and ultimately for society as a whole," said Warren Todd, conference chairman, president-elect of DMAA's board of directors and editor of Disease Management-- A Systems Approach to Improving Patient Outcomes. Conference speakers will address the future of disease management from public policy, regulatory, and program design, implementation, and evaluation standpoints. The conference is geared toward the senior clinical and non-clinical leadership of health plans, disease management organizations, corporations, and consultants.
