Chronic Headaches Of Children Treated At Cedars-Sinai
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center offers a Pediatric Headache Clinic that specializes
in diagnosing and treating the headaches of children and adolescents, especially
challenging and complicated cases. Because headaches can be caused by a host of
sources--ranging from tension and hormonal dysfunctions to meningitis and brain
tumors--an occasional headache should not be overly alarming but recurring
headaches should not be overlooked.
Van Gogh Exhibit Is "Bridge To Wellness"
The Van Gogh exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art may seem like an
unlikely setting for re-entry into normal life after a stroke, spinal cord,
brain injury or other disabling disorder, such as Guillain-Barre Syndrome. But
that's what it was for seven rehab patients from Cedars-Sinai.
New Treatments For Hepatitis B And C
Scientists are studying new treatments to combat two viruses that cause chronic
liver inflammation, can have catastrophic consequences, and are expected to
become increasingly devastating over the next decade. Chronic hepatitis B is
currently blamed for about 6,000 deaths a year in the United States. Hepatitis C
is responsible for 10,000 deaths but those numbers are expected to jump sharply
-- perhaps to as high as 30,000 hepatitis C deaths annually by the year 2010. The
increased mortality is likely to be clustered in people of mid-adult years.
Microwave Thermotherapy For Treatment Of Prostate Disease
A new non-surgical treatment option that utilizes microwave thermotherapy to
treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) -- the common, non-cancerous condition
of an enlarged prostate gland in older men -- is now available at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center. Cedars-Sinai is one of the first facilities in Southern
California to treat BPH non-surgically using the ProstatronR, a state-of-the-art
medical device that delivers microwave energy to targeted areas of the enlarged
prostate.
Causes, Prevention Of Dwarfism Goals Of International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry
Uncovering the causes and, eventually, a "cure" for skeletal dysplasias -- a
group of more than 200 disorders that cause dwarfism - are the goals behind the
International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The
registry is the world's largest referral center for the diagnosis and management
of skeletal dysplasias, which affect one in 5,000 to 10,000 people.
