Alcohol Before Lunch Increases Total Calorie Intake

The appetizing effect of an aperitif in overweight and normal-weight humans. by Margriet S Westerterp-Plantenga and Christianne RT Verwegen.

In 52 healthy volunteers a single pre-luncheon drink of wine or beer delayed mealtime satiety and increased 24 hr calorie intake compared to pre-luncheon non-alcoholic drinks of equal calories. The study provides one explanation for weight gain among moderate drinkers.
