A 10-year analysis of ischemic heart disease deaths among 34,492 postmenopausal women showed lowest risk among those who consumed the most whole-grain in their diets. The positive effect was considered due to increased intake of phenols, vitamins and phytoestrogens. (Accompanying editorial by W. Willett.)
